- Find an authorized Live Scan service provider in California. These providers may include private businesses, law enforcement agencies, or public facilities.
- Present the required identification documents { Driver License/ ID, Military ID, US Passport} and any forms provided by the requesting agency or employer {Request For Live Scan Service}. The Live Scan technician will verify your identity and enter your personal information into the Live Scan system.
- The Live Scan technician will digitally capture your fingerprints using a specialized scanner. The scanner captures the unique ridge patterns and other characteristics of your fingers.
- Submission and Processing: Once your fingerprints are captured, the Live Scan technician submits them electronically to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and, if required, to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The fingerprints are checked against criminal record databases for any matches or criminal history information.
- Results and Notification: The DOJ and/or FBI processes the fingerprints and generates a response. The results are sent directly to the requesting agency or employer, who will receive the information regarding your criminal history, if any. If you requested a personal record review, the results will be sent directly to you.

HOW DOES LIVE SCAN WORK?
Live Scan fingerprinting is a computer system that digitally scans the characteristic patterns of fingers. Once the fingerprints are taken, our Live Scan technician than submit the digital fingerprints directly to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and/ or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for processing.
The Live Scan process begins with the requesting agency (Employers or State Licensing Board) provide you with a “Request to be Live Scan Services” form.
Once a Live scan technician had submitted your fingerprints to DOJ and/ or FBI, it could take up to 72 business hours to complete. Once the fingerprints has been processed, the result will be send directly to the requesting agency. For personal record review, the result will be send directly to the applicant.
WHO NEEDS LIVE SCAN?
1 – If you are getting or renewing your Professional License, certification from the State.
2 – Your employer is requesting you to get Live Scan fingerprinting.
3 – Anyone else who simply want to see what’s on their personal record may get Live Scan fingerprints.
